Our Story

Steel City Mission Group was conceptualized in late 2007 by two friends, Mary Esther Kanfoush and Marie Winter. After doing mission work with friends, family, church groups and nonprofit groups for two years, Mary Esther and Marie were called to form and lead their own group in the mission field.

SCMG was organized for charitable purposes, but more specifically, for the conduction of short-term medical clinics, construction projects, evangelism and general support efforts aimed at improving the quality of life of the poor and disadvantaged in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Since its inception, SCMG has grown in membership and volunteerism largely through testimonials of current and previous contributors for the work being done by the group in Hispanola.

To date, SCMG has organized multiple, short-term mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, with trips lasting anywhere from 7 - 14 days.

In addition to the relief efforts in the Dominican Republic, multiple members have volunteered to help in Haiti. Basic medical care was provided to Haitians through medical clinics in June 2009. After the devastating earthquake in 2010, several of the nurses of SCMG answered the call for help by volunteering at a field hospital in Port-au Prince, Haiti (January and February 2010).

SCMG services people of all ages through medical clinics and health education programs. Multiple communities and families are blessed each year with improvements to their living conditions through SCMG construction projects.

As of December 2012, SCMG has officially become a Nonprofit 501(c)3 Organization.
